Organized by the Youth Initiative Vancouver [YIV] and the Academy of Modern Art [AOMA], this contest aims to foster international artistic exchanges among youth and discover outstanding talents from around the globe with artistic expression, creativity, and a sense of social responsibility.

As an international platform for artistic expression, the contest encourages participants to use their unique perspectives and convey their ideas to the world through visual art forms such as painting, photography, animation, design, or multimedia. Step onto the global stage through art!

Theme

The Future refers to the time from now; it could be tomorrow, next year, the next moment, or even the next century. The future embodies vision, imagination, and mystery. Unleash your creativity and use art to illustrate your future self or the world of tomorrow!

Show your creativity!

There are no restrictions on the materials used to create the submissions, including but not limited to drawing, painting, illustration, cartooning, animation, short videos, photography, digital art, sculpture and installation art. Design pieces also qualify for submission, such as visual design, fashion design, interior design, user interaction design and architecture design, etc. Entries must align with the theme and be 100% original. Submitting AI-generated artwork is strictly prohibited. Participants may not forge, plagiarize, or violate copyright laws. Any violations will result in immediate disqualification.

The size of 2D work such as painting and design should be no smaller than 20×30 cm and no larger than 40×55 cm. The size of 3D work such as sculpture and installation should be within 60×60×60cm. All photos should be taken in high definition. Please pay attention to the light when shooting, so as not to include shadows on the submitted photos. Do not include irrelevant objects or backgrounds in the picture. All submissions of any medium should be no smaller than 1MB. Online submission only. Participants may only submit one artwork each.

Judging Panel:

The contest judging panel features a collaboration of national-level judges and university admissions officers from renowned institutions. In previous years, the expert panel has included members from Canada Council for the Arts; Deans, tenured professors, and admissions officers from institutions such as: University of British Columbia (UBC), School of Visual Arts (SVA), New York, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Ringling College of Art and Design, Alberta University of the Arts, Academy of Modern Art (AOMA); Distinguished professional artists and industry leaders. This panel ensures the highest standards of evaluation for creativity, skill, and artistic vision.


Competition Jury:

Gu Xiong

Gu Xiong is a Professor of Department of Art History, Visual Art, and Theory at the University of British Columbia, was the judge of the National Arts Council of Canada and a multimedia China/Canadian Contemporary artist. His works have been collected by the National Gallery of Canada, the National Art Museum of China and many other museums and individuals, and he has received many commissions from the United States and Canada to create a number of public artworks.

Andrew McDermott

Andrew McDermott is an Eminent Pastelist of the International Association of Pastel Societies, as well as the past President and Senior member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. He continues to achieve top prizes at international art competitions and is a sought after judge for prestigious art competitions. Andrew has over twenty-years of teaching experience across local universities and academies, and serves as the Head Instructor at the Academy of Modern Art. 

Will Colpoys

Will Colpoys (he/they) is the admission officer at School of Visual Arts and an animator with a BFA in Animation from the School of Visual Arts. They grew up with one foot in rural Upstate New York and the other in Southwest Florida before following their dreams in the Big City. Will is always eager for the opportunity to connect with other up-and-coming artists. Will is excited to be a judge again for this year’s competition! 

Myron Campbell

Myron Campbell is a media artist, designer, and educator based in Canada. He works across interactive design, animation, and installation, with notable projects including work for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. A former Art Director at Switch United, he received the 2010 Canadian New Media Award for Best Interactive Designer. Campbell has exhibited his work internationally and has taught as an Associate Professor of Digital Media at UBC Okanagan.

Marcelyn Gow

Marcelyn Gow is the Undergraduate Programs Chair and a faculty member in design/history-theory at Southern California Institute of Architecture(SCI-Arc). She is also a partner at Servo Los Angeles.  Gow holds architecture degrees from the Architectural Association and Columbia University, as well as a Dr.Sc. from ETH Zurich. Her doctoral dissertation, Invisible Environment: Art, Architecture and a Systems Aesthetic, explores the relationship between aesthetic research and technological innovation. Gow has previously taught at ETH Zurich, UCLA Architecture and Urban Design, and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

María Huerta-Cervantes

María Huerta-Cervantes is the Associate Vice President of Undergraduate Admissions at ArtCenter College of Design. With over a decade of experience in higher education, admissions, and community outreach, she is committed to helping young artists and designers achieve their creative and professional goals. María holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Princeton University and an Ed.M. in Higher Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has also mentored students through the UCLA Riordan College to Career Program and served as a Princeton alumni interviewer and chair of the Alumni Schools Committee for the Inland Empire region.


Post-Contest Activities:

A variety of post-competition activities are offered to broaden participants’ horizons, enhance their international experience, and further strengthen their personal profiles.

Many past winners, through recommendations, have successfully gained admission to Ivy League schools and top international art institutions.


Canada Youth Visual Art Contest – Short Video Contest

Selected works will be featured on CYVAC and AOMA’s official platforms, with top creators earning recognition and prizes! Social Impact:

The contest has garnered strong support from government officials and various sectors of society. Over the years, the event has received significant attention and backing from the Prime Minister of Canada, Members of Parliament, Provincial Premiers, the Lieutenant Governor’s Office of British Columbia, provincial and municipal governments, mayors, and multiple foreign consulates in Vancouver. Additionally, leaders from community organizations, business sectors, and mainstream media have actively shown their support through congratulatory videos, letters of recognition, or by attending the award ceremonies in person.


Contest and Charity:

Igniting Dreams Through Art, Giving Back to Society Through Art

Over the past few years, the competition has raised over $50,000 CAD for charitable organizations, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, and the Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital Foundation.

In 2025, CYVAC will continue to unite children and youth worldwide through the power of art, working together to support charitable causes, create value, and give back to society!

Youth Initiative Vancouver (YIV) is a non-profit organization registered by the government of BC, Canada. It is committed to providing multicultural exchanges and promoting cultural and arts education. Since its establishment, YIV has been dedicated to a plethora of activities, including initiating and supporting international art events, organizing educational and charitable activities, and building a cooperation platform between university and high school students from different countries.

Academy Of Modern Art

The Academy of Modern Art (AOMA) is an art institution based in Vancouver, Canada. It offers innovative and high-quality art education programs including Portfolio Preparation, University Application , Kid, Teen & Adult Visual Arts Programs. Academic courses including AP/SAT Maths and English upon request. AOMA helps outstanding students gain admission to their ideal universities, achieving a 100% university acceptance rate and high-value scholarships for eight consecutive years! Its instructor team includes experienced university professors, leading industry designers and visual artists.

递交作品要求

参赛作品网络投递,每位参赛者仅限提交一件作品。

参赛作品必须符合主题且为原创。严禁提交由人工智能生成的作品。参赛者不得伪造、抄袭或违反版权法。违规者将被取消参赛资格。

大胆展现你的创意!作品类别和材料不限;包含但不仅限于绘画、素描、插画、漫画、动画、短视频、摄影、多媒体数字艺术、雕塑、装置艺术以及平面设计、服装设计、室内设计、交互设计、建筑设计等设计类作品;2D 绘画设计类作品尺寸请在20×30cm 和40×55cm 之间,3D 雕塑装置类作品请在60×60×60cm 以内。

所有作品图片请高清拍摄,拍摄时注意光线,没有不相关的阴影在作品上;图片除作品之外无不相关物品和背景;图片文件大小不低于1M。

加拿大卑诗大学艺术系终身教授,曾任加拿大国家艺术委员会评委,多媒体中国/加拿大当代艺术家 。
他的作品被加拿大国家美术馆、中国美术馆以及许多其它博物馆和个人收藏,并接受美国和加拿大的多项委托,设计和制作多件公共艺术品。

高级评委:Andrew McDermott

Andrew McDermott是被美国和加拿大粉蜡笔画协会都授予大师勋章的著名艺术家,曾担任加拿大艺术家联盟总裁。近年来,Andrew 每年都在国际职业艺术赛事中斩获大奖,也常受邀担任国际艺术比赛的评审。他同时拥有超过二十年的教学经验,任教于温哥华本地的几所大学,也是奥玛现代艺术设计学院的首席导师。

Will Colpoys 是纽约视觉艺术学院的招生官和动画师。在来到纽约追寻梦想之前,他是在纽约北部和佛罗里达西南部长大的,并且毕业于这所学校的动画专业。威尔很希望有机会认识更多崭露头角的艺术家们,也很高兴今年再一次成为比赛的评委。 

高级评委:Myron Campbell

Myron Campbell 是一位活跃于加拿大的媒体艺术家、设计师与教育者,目前担任 UBC 奥肯那根分校的数字媒体副教授。他的创作涵盖互动设计、动画与装置艺术,曾为 2010 年温哥华冬奥会参与创意项目,并曾任 Switch United 的艺术总监。Myron 曾荣获加拿大新媒体奖“最佳互动设计师”奖项,并在多个国际艺术展中展出其作品。

高级评委:Marcelyn Gow

Marcelyn Gow是美国南加州建筑学院(SCI-Arc)本科项目主任兼设计与建筑史理论方向的教授。她同时也是洛杉矶设计团队Servo的合伙人。Gow拥有建筑联盟学院(AA)和哥伦比亚大学的建筑学位,并在苏黎世联邦理工学院(ETH Zurich)获得博士学位。她的博士论文《看不见的环境:艺术、建筑与系统美学》探讨了美学研究与技术创新之间的关系。Gow曾在苏黎世联邦理工学院、加州大学洛杉矶分校建筑与城市设计学院,以及斯德哥尔摩皇家理工学院任教。

María Huerta-Cervantes是美国加州艺术中心设计学院(Art Center)本科招生副校长,她在高等教育、招生及社区推广领域拥有十多年经验,始终致力于支持年轻艺术家和设计师实现其创意梦想与职业发展目标。María拥有普林斯顿大学建筑学士和哈佛大学教育硕士学位。她还通过加州大学洛杉矶分校的里奥丹 “从大学到职业“项目指导学生,并担任普林斯顿大学校友招生面试官,以及普林斯顿大学内陆帝国地区校友学校委员会主席。

大赛有两类报名表,一类适用于北美、欧洲、亚洲等中国大陆以外的国家和地区。此报名表里面可以直接用信用卡付款。

另一类报名表只适合微信、支付宝方式支付者使用。
